Bunny Bud Headband...

A fun little Easter Bunny headband that took about 20 minutes to make.

Wanna make one?

Here's how I did it:

1. Gather felt, bunny buttons, DMC floss, darning needle, flower stencil or template, elastic ruffle trim.

2. Cut out 5 flowers any shape, any size. (I used a template, but ANY pattern will work)

3. Fold one of the flowers into a quarter.  Put a stitch or two through all layers.

4. Place quartered flower onto one of the other flowers and stitch in place and knot. (don't cut thread- continue to work on same thread without cutting for the whole flower.

 

5. Place 2 quartered flower on flat flower and sew and knot into place.

6. Do the same with the other 2 quartered flowers.

7. Sew bunny button into place in the center of the bud.

8. Cut out a leaf (I just freehanded one with scissors) and sew onto the back of the bud.

9. Sew elastic ruffle (headband) onto the back of the bud and add a circle of felt over the back to cover all the stitching, etc.

10. Or add it to a hard plastic headband or barrette!

The Ruffled Tablecloth...

My new Easter tablecloth.  I'm kind of excited about it.  You'll laugh at how easy it was to make!

Oh Snap!...

It's Easter time again and you know what that means for my blog-

time for a new Easter shirt!!!  This is what I came up with this year...

Directions and pattern below- I hope you try it!!!

 

Here's what you'll need to get started:

Directions:

1. Cut out bunny pattern and the letters below (I didn't follow the line of bow around the neck. I also cut the ear off in a jagged line.  Look at my pics to see what I mean)

2. Iron Wonder Under to the back of the brown fabric and the pink fabric

3. Trace the bunny onto the back of the brown fabric with Wonder Under. Trace the letters onto the back of the pink fabric with Wonder Under

4. Iron stabilizer to the underside of the front of the shirt

5. Cut out the bunny and the letters

6. Remove the backings and iron the bunny and letters to the front of the shirt

7. Using a satin stitch, iron around the letters

8. Add a ribbon bow to the bunny with a stitch or a safety pin

 

      

 

So, I've Been Knitting...

When I was a young girl, my Granny McDonald taught me how to knit.  Now, when I say knit, I mean I knit squares.  Nothing more than that, but I LOVED sitting with her in her small flat in Northern Ireland talking with her and knitting. She always made me feel so good about how fast I picked it up for a child and would show me off to anyone who came to visit.  

My Granny was and INCREDIBLE knitter.  She made us the most gorgeous irish Aran sweaters and I don't think she ever used a pattern.  I am sooooo happy I still have every sweater she ever made me or the children.  They will always be priceless to me.  

Now when I look back at it, I wasn't good OR fast, but she certainly made me feel like I was.  She NEVER became frustrated with me when I dropped stitches or couldn't cast on.  My Granny made me LOVE knitting.

Now cut to 25 years later and one day I suddenly got the desire to knit again.  I wanted to do something creative, but relaxing- something that I could watch TV while doing or bring with me when I went out.  

The only problem was I completely forgot how to do it!  And remember- I only ever knit squares with my Granny.  So how was I going to do this?  

Well, I headed to Barnes and Noble and after looking through MANY knitting books, I decided on this cute one.

It had SUCH cute hats and the directions looked like they were written for a true newbie.  Guess what?  I was right!!!  It was PERFECT! 

Between this book and a video or 2 on YouTube, I was knitting my guts out before you knew it!  

I have made KK so many cute beanies and I always get such a kick out of seeing him in them.  Here are some of my favs I've made him:

 

 

I think my favorite part of knitting though is every time I pick up my needles, I think of my Granny.  I am so thankful that she had the patience to plant this seed in me.  I think she's probably looking down on me with pride and showing me off to anyone who cares to listen.

I'm still not good OR fast, but I'm loving it and I'm loving the connection I feel to my past.
   
  

Here are some of the hats I've made for our new baby girl--

Shabby Chenille Carrots...

For Easter gifts, Scarlet and I made bunches of chenille carrots for teachers and us and her Grammy.  They turned out so cute and we had a blast making them!  They were soooo easy!

Here's how to make them-

Supplies:

1/2 yard orange/peach chenille (for 3 carrots)

Scraps of different green fabrics

Poly stuffing

Manilla tags

jute

Instructions:

1. Trace template onto fabric and cut out 2 pieces for every carrot you want to make.

2. Sew the pieces right sides together, leaving the top open.

                                                                

                  

                                                                                                 ........................

3. Stuff the carrots so they are firm, but not too firm.

                                                         

                                                                                                           ......................

4. Tear strips of green fabric and sew them together at the bottom.

                                        

                                                                                              

                                   ........................

5. Whip stitch the top of the carrot together leaving a small opening in the middle.  Stuff the bottom of the green fabric strips into the hole and then sew the hole shut.

6. Tie a strip of fabric around all three carrots and attach a tag with jute!

I *heart* a Peep... not necessarily how they taste, but how they look.  ADORABLE!

Actually, I do like how they taste, but only while dipped in hot chocolate... sounds good about right now.  Delish!

So, this is what kept me awake last night. 

A fun Easter outfit for Scarlet!  It's not her Easter Sunday outfit... I bought that... it's TOO DIE FOR.  I can't wait to show you! 

Anyway, back to the Peeps--

Peeps Shirt Directions:

1. Iron a piece of WONDER UNDER to the back of pink fabric
2. Cut out the bunny from my pattern
3. Trace 3 of the bunnies onto the Wonder Under on the back of the pink fabric
4. Cut out the bunnies
5. Peel the paper backing off of the bunnies
6. Iron the bunnies onto the shirt
7. Satin Stitch or zig zag stitch around the bunnies to secure them onto the shirt and to prevent fraying
8. With black embroidery floss stitch eyes and nose onto the bunnies
9. You're done!!!

I bought my shirt from Old Navy for $2.99 and I used old fabric, so this shirt cost me $3 to make!  Fab deal!
