for not blogging yesterday.
Yep, that's my Dan.
I was sitting down to blog at about 11:30 last night and the phone rings. I see on the caller ID that it's Dan's gym, but I missed the call. So I call them back figuring it was Dan who had forgotten his phone and had probably locked his keys inside his car (not an unusual event).
The front desk answers the phone and I ask if my husband had just called me from there and the girl says, "Is his name Dan?"
After telling her yes, she then says, "We just wanted you to know he has been seriously injured and the ambulance is on it's way... can you hold on a second?" And without waiting for a reply, she put me on hold!!!!!!!!!! I remained on hold for about 2 minutes and that's about all the time it took me to become HYSTERICAL.
I pictured him having a heart attack, falling and hitting his head, being mugged or hit with a car in the parking lot-- you name it, I pictured it during those 2 minutes.
I then heard Dan's voice on the phone and practically passed out with relief. He went on to tell me he had a hurt himself while playing basketball and had probably torn his Achilles tendon. He was in agony, but I was so relieved that he wasn't dying that I almost fainted there and then. I also wanted the RING the idiot's neck who put me on hold!
I quickly got dressed called my brother to come and stay with the kids and drove to the gym. I pulled up and there was a firetruck and an ambulance already there. I went running into the gym and was met by a VERY gray Dan vomiting and with sweat pouring out of every pore. He looked HORRIBLE. It totally freaked me out. He was in so much pain... it was excruciating for me to see. I seriously thought he was going to have a heart attack. The paramedics assured me his blood pressure was okay and the ashen color, sweating and vomiting were normal reactions to excruciating pain.
After he was able to stop vomiting they put him into the ambulance and took him to our local hospital. I followed them in the car and met my mom at the emergency room. (She was scared that I was going to go into labor or something)
When I got to the front desk to fill out the paper work, a nurse or doctor came up to me and asked if I was Dan's wife. I told him yes and he asked, "Does he always act like this?"
I thought it was a weird question (because Dan wasn't really acting like anything unusual) and replied, "Um, yes... why?"
He then says, "Does he usually refuse to answer any questions and act belligerently?"
All I was thinking was, "What in the heck has happened to my husband in the last 15 minutes since I've seen him!?!??!!??!?!?"
I was starting to freak out!!!
He then says, "These are the normal signs of head trauma, ma'am."
FREAKING HEAD TRAUMA??!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!!
Did the paramedics drop him or something? What had happened since I'd last seen him?
I then said, "Are we talking about Dan GREDING? He's 37, white, shaved head?"
I then get that, "UH-OH" look and the moron says, "Oh wrong patient" and walks away!
Oh my gosh!!! My second near heart attack of the night.
Okay, to make a long story short (too late).... Dan has a torn calf muscle. Thank heavens above it was not a torn Achilles like they first thought. He will not need surgery, but will be on bed rest for the next week. Crutches after that. It's really the best case scenario for what it could have been.
Okay, so that's my excuse for not blogging yesterday. Good enough?
